Br. 117 Midway Spring Report 2019

9. Midway – Branch 117

MIDWAY BC SENIORS BRANCH #117
Report to West Kootenay/Boundary Regional Meeting – Midway, B.C.
April 15, 2019
Midway Seniors are nearing the end to our renovations using the New Horzions grants. We
have put in just over $90,000.00 dollars worth of renovations in the past few years. Since the
beginning of March, new lights were installed in our main meeting room and lounge with
grants from New Horizon’s and Midway Partnership Funds. The last project we will do is to
pave our parking area when the Village of Midway asks us to apply for a grant to do this much
needed improvement. A new sign has also been added to the front of our building, “Midway
Senior’s Centre $117”, making it easier for guests to find our building. Our back door has been
replaced with a wheel chair friendly flat sill. The back sidewalk support posts have also been
painted. All of these improvements make our facility more inviting.
Since January, our new vision is to increase our membership. Our membership to date is 47.
We have added advertising at our local library on the outdoor marque. We have new posters up
as well. Business cards with our open hours and list of days and weekly events on it, have been
printed, this is very handy to give to prospective new members, and small enough to keep in
their wallets. Our members are being encouraged to invite their friends as well.
We are open on Monday at 2 p.m. for Art. Tuesday, we play Wii games at 9:30 a.m., Thursday
is Crafts at 9:30 a.m. and Friday at 9:30 a.m. is Bingo every other Friday and Coffee on
alternate Fridays at 9:30 a.m. We have a beautiful Pool table and we enjoy that four mornings a
week. Our business meeting is on the first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m., and Birthday Tea
on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Last Wednesday of the month is our potluck at 5 p.m.,
which is also a social time for our members
We welcome you to stop in and tour through our building and join in our events anytime.
Richard Battersby,
President
Since this report was originally written in the spring, some major changes were forced when
our President had a stroke and has had to step down from his position at President. On October
17th, our branch will be electing a new President.
At our Election meeting there was no one who would let their name stand for President, so we
are operating without a President for now. Executive and board members rotate chairing the
business meetings, which works for us.
Our Christmas Dinner was held on December 12th and was a planned potluck with turkey and
ham being purchased by our Midway Seniors. Other years we have either gone to a restaurant
or had our meal catered. Members felt the cost was too high so we did the planned potluck,
which worked out great!
Revision of this report done by Lorraine Bradford, Past President.
