REPORT TO REGIONAL SPRING MEETING

April 10, 2017 held at the TRAIL SENIOR CENTRE

Meetings: Third Thursday of the Month – September to May

  • Sometimes our meetings are potluck luncheons
  • We try for guest speakers at each meeting with topics on Senior’s issues, for example Dana Burgess on Transportation to our area.

Our regular activities are:

Weekly:     Carpet Bowling

Cribbage

Yoga: 2 hourly classes, Gentle Chair Yoga and the more advanced Hatha Yoga. Yoga classes are affordable and self-supporting with the help of grants form CBT and RDCK’s Rec 10, as well as drop-in fees. Note: For CBT Grant, first have to do a presentation and the community votes.

Quilting Club – Some weeks 2 days.

Monthly:    Garden Club – Meetings and local garden tours.

All our activities are open to any adult members or visitors in the community as well.

Fundraising (2016) for our utilities and the normal costs of maintaining our Senior’s Centre:

Two bake sales within our local community craft fair and pancake breakfast.

Bean supper, very well attended by our community as well as our neighbouring Seniors Branch in Balfour.

Good Sam luncheon holds their annual meeting here with Seniors providing the lunch.

Recycling – Refundable items are collected and delivered to the recycling depot in Nelson.

Donations from groups using our clubhouse for meetings or family gatherings or when we supply the help at memorials in the community hall.

Drop-in fees for all activities.

For major renovations and repairs, we have to rely on Grand Applications.

Social Events:

A social hour after activities with snacks.

Annual: – Windup potluck party at the close of activities for the summer.

June: – Invitation to Nelson Seniors Picnic at Lakeside Part.

Late August: – Annual corn roast inviting Balfour and Nelson Seniors.

October 11: Put on a surprise 99th Birthday party for Rose Burgess, 33-year member and Treasurer for the last 21 years.

November 11: – Organizing snacks for the community after November 11 ceremonies at our cenotaph.

December: – Christmas Potluck.

Other events:

Attended the Passmore Spring Regional Conference.

Hosted the Fall Regional Conference.

We are working on the Federal/Provincial Community funding Grants to upgrade the energy efficiency of our clubhouse.

An assessment of our clubhouse was done in February and we were given an outline of the required renovations.

2017 news: – We have just received a $12,000.00 Grant from New Horizons to replace a 38 year old roof on our clubhouse, that has been leaking for the past two years.
