NELSON SENIORS BRANCH #51

REPORT TO REGIONAL SPRING MEETING

April 10, 2017, held at the TRAIL SENIOR CENTRE

GREETINGS FROM NELSON

Senior Citizens Nelson Branch No. 51 is located at 717 Vernon Street, next to the movie theatre and across the street from Nelsons famous Kootenay Co-op store.

To date, our membership numbers 173.

Every day, except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, our senior’s centre is occupied by one or more of the following activities: Bridge, Cribbage, Dominoes, Pinochle, Euchre and Chess.

Also, we enjoy keeping fit with Chair Yoga and Qi Gong classes twice a week. As well, we have a Book Club, that meets monthly, and the Knitters meet every Saturday morning.

The Crap Bookers and Rug Hookers meet regularly and Snooker players generally meet in the evenings

One of our members looks after our well-stocked library. As well, there is always a puzzle in the making.

In 2016, we held our annual Strawberry Tea for 90+-year-old local residents. This event was held in June. Strawberry shortcake, tea and coffee were enjoyed by all attendees.

In July we held our annual picnic. Lakeside Park Rotary Shelter is our desired location, however, due to the questionable weather that day, the event was held at our seniors centre. Fried chicken, salads, fruit and goodies were enjoyed; all the while the wind was blowing the rain against the windows.

In December, our Christmas Luncheon was catered by the Lutheran Church Ladies. A delicious home cooked Christmas dinner was thoroughly enjoyed, followed by a carol sing-a-long and door prizes.

Except for July and August, our monthly meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month, at 10:30 am. Any time you happen to be in Nelson, do drop in. We would be happy to see you.

Thank you very much.

Bev Fischer, President

Senior Citizens Association, Nelson Branch No. 51
