NELSON SENIOR CITIZENS’ BRANCH # 51

Report to West Kootenay/Boundary Regional Meeting – Balfour, B.C.

April 3, 2018

Senior Citizens Nelson Branch No. 51, to date, has a membership of 178 individuals.

The mornings, at our centre, begin with one or two of the following activities: Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Chair Yoga, Book Club, Chess and or Knitters.  The afternoons are busy with our most popular activities, Bridge and Cribbage.

The Scrap Bookers and Rug Hookers meet twice a month. Snooker players generally meet in the evenings.

Our library houses many recent titles donated by members. As well, there is always a puzzle being assembled.

In 2017, we held our annual June Strawberry Tea for 90+ year local residents. In July, our annual Summer Luncheon for members and guests; and in December, our catered Christmas Luncheon. A delicious home cooked Christmas dinner was thoroughly enjoyed, followed by a carol sing-a-long and door prizes.

Except for July and August, our monthly meeting is held on the first Wednesday of every month at 10:30 a.m.

This past year we were educated and entertained by several guest speakers who spoke on the following topics:

Scams & Solicitation Awareness

Chair Massage

Seniors’ Transportation

Renewable Energy

Cannabis Legalization

Fire Safety, Smoke Alarms, Fire Extinguishers

Our Seniors Centre is in use seven days a week.
